Driver Application Guide

The CDL-A Hiring Process: Application Through Eligibility

Knowing the hiring process helps you move faster and avoid preventable delays. Exact steps vary by carrier, but this is the typical path from application to final eligibility.

1. Submit a complete application

Choose a market and schedule, then provide accurate contact and location information. Confirm that you hold a valid Class A CDL so recruiting can review the correct opportunities.

2. Recruiter contact and interview

A recruiter reviews your location, experience, driving history, schedule preferences and availability. Respond promptly so the opening can be discussed while seats remain available.

3. Conditional offer and driver profile

Qualified applicants may receive a conditional offer for electronic signature. Depending on the motor carrier, you may also receive an invitation to create or complete a driver profile and verify your identity.

4. Background and driver qualification file

The onboarding team may request MVR consent, employment and residential history, Clearinghouse actions, identity verification and a drug test. Complete every request accurately and watch for email or text updates.

  • Sign requested documents promptly
  • Use consistent legal information
  • Complete consent requests before they expire
  • Tell recruiting immediately if you encounter a technical problem

5. Final review and eligibility

The participating motor carrier makes the final hiring decision after required records and screenings are complete. A conditional offer or application alone does not guarantee employment.
